Marrying a stunning design with the practicality of a tourer all in a five-door shooting brake body, the Kia ProCeed recently made its public debut at the 2018 Paris Motor Show. The new ProCeed was seen and covered with much applause from the media and public for its sophisticated design and features to back its confidence.
“The ProCeed is a car that represents everything Kia stands for,” said Emilio Herrera, Chief Operating Officer for Kia Motors Europe. “This beautiful shooting brake body offers drivers an unmatched combination of design, space and versatility, providing a unique proposition in the mid-size family car segment.”
The new ProCeed continues the legacy of the second-generation Kia pro_cee’d three-door coupé, as one can guess by its name. Designed, developed and engineered in Europe specifically for European customers, the Kia ProCeed will be available exclusively as a GT Line or high-performance GT model.
Efficiently Designed, Inside And Out
Since its global debut a decade ago, the pro_cee’d, as it was named then, has always been the emotional halo model in the cee’d family. Under the supervision of Peter Schreyer, President of Design and Chief Design Officer, Guillaume and his Frankfurt-based European design team explored how to best reinvent pro_cee’d while maintaining all of its vitality and vibrancy.
To stay true to its coupé DNA, the new ProCeed has a lower and longer body than both the Ceed five-door hatchback and Sportswagon. The ProCeed’s low roofline, which slings along the cabin’s narrow glasshouse, is complete with an integrated roof spoiler. Extended rear overhang accentuates the ProCeed’s muscular shoulders, which are further complemented by its full-width LED light-bar.
The ProCeed’s substantial external structure secures ample room for both front and rear occupants. For rear passengers, the relatively lower hip-point offsets the effects of the ProCeed’s lower roofline, creating plenty of head and legroom. The ProCeed also offers more luggage capacity, even compared to many tourers from classes above.
High Performance Backed by Powerful Engines
The ProCeed is powered by a wide choice of engines to meet the powertrain expectations of customers who are becoming increasingly familiar with fast-revving, highly efficient turbocharged engines that offer immediate acceleration and a broad spread of torque.
The ProCeed GT Line is available with a choice of three engines. Gasoline options include Kia’s popular 1.0-litre T-GDi engine, producing 120 ps and 172 Nm torque. The most powerful engine for GT Line models is the brand’s new ‘Kappa’ 1.4-litre T-GDi power unit, which produces 140 ps. Both engines are fitted with a gasoline particulate filter to reduce tailpipe emissions, making sure the ProCeed goes beyond the requirements of the Euro 6d TEMP standard. Customers can also specify an efficient new ‘Smartstream’ 1.6-litre CRDi diesel engine, Kia’s cleanest diesel engine to-date.
Marking the return of Kia’s high-performance ‘GT’ model, the ProCeed GT is powered by a 1.6-litre T-GDi engine, the most powerful engine in the ProCeed line-up. The new ProCeed GT is also among the first Kia models to see the introduction of Kia’s seven-speed double-clutch transmission, enabling quick-fire gear shifts via the metal alloy steering wheel paddles.
Maximum Confidence on All Roads
Technology in the ProCeed plays a key role in enhancing both driving enjoyment and safety. Under the direction of Albert Biermann, Head of Kia’s Vehicle Test and High Performance Development, the ProCeed has been engineered to provide the most reliable safety measures available to drivers.
Standard Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Kia’s Vehicle Stability Management (VSM) system guarantee stable performance in any conditions, allowing the driver to fully focus on and enjoy the driving experience itself. Every Kia ProCeed is equipped with fully-independent suspension as standard, moving against the trend for other mid-size family cars to offer the more advanced multi-link rear suspension as a more costly option.
The optional Drive Mode Select (DMS) system switches between Normal and Sport modes depending on the road condition, altering the level of effort required to steer the car and subtly readapting the powertrain. This provides a tailored driving experience to all drivers, minus the hassle of manually adjusting driving modes.
The new Kia ProCeed is not just a pretty face - and it proves with performance that lives up to the expectations of all drivers. Perfect for anyone in search of a car that’s as sharp looking as it is reliable, the ProCeed is a sure-fire real deal.
